The highly specialised niche of Certified Nursing Assistants is increasing in numbers pretty much all the time. As the global recession really begins to hit home, many younger people are pursuing CNA Training as a viable career choice. In addition to this, an ever increasing amount of adults are now leaving their current jobs in order to gain their CNA certification and embark on a new career in the health care sector.

As a direct result of this, the growing demand for CNA’s has resulted in an increase in the number of free cna training classes for new students. While not all CNA classes are free, there are still many low cost options to consider if free cna classes are not available in your state.

Generally, free cna training programs can be found in a load of different ways and from multiple places. The main way free cna classes are provided are via Hospital and Nursing Care Home programs. You’ll even be able to find some free cna training online, but it’s never as in-depth or complete as the training you’d recieve on site. Many youth and ‘get back to work’ programs for adults also offer fast track cna courses, many of which are free, so if you are interested please contact your local register of Certified Nursing Assistants for more info.

The actual training you’ll recieve consists of both theory and practice classes. The theory will consist of written study materials, where you will learn the ins and outs of becoming a certified nursing assistant. The practical aspect of cna training consists of laboratory based work, where you will physically learn and do the job of a CNA. There’s a difference between actually writing about how to do something, and actually doing it in real life, and thats what the practical learning courses are all about…. putting you in at the deep end so to speak!.

Of course, having first hand training on the job looks great on a resume. In fact, pretty much all employers will expect you to have this, and in many cases it’s a legal requirement.

Your local job center / training agency may also provide free cna training, many times in co-operation with several state institutes who are employed to ensure proper training when it comes to looking after members of the public. You’ll find publicly funded programs for Certified Nursing Assistants, Home Health Aides, Registered Nurses and many more different health care related jobs. The Armed Forces of the United States also offer a huge array of educational options, for those who are on active duty, and even in many cases, their spouses – so be sure to check out all your options.

Finally, free CNA training can also be found (if you look hard enough) from many online schools that offer nursing assistant education. The online training for CNA’s however does not contain the practical training, so you will need to still do that somewhere should you consider taking your CNA exam.

I recieve many emails a day asking where exactly people can find free CNA training, and the truth of it is, i can’t tell you as the list of companies and organisations offering CNA training is changing all the time, and differs from state to state. You’ll find many of these organisations advertising online, so keep your eyes peeled, do a bit of research and you’ll find an option that helps you reach your goal of obtaining CNA Certification.

There are several places that you can enroll in CNA Training to become a Certified Nursing Assistant, one of the most popular being The American Red Cross. Some of the reasons that the red cross training program is so popular is that the course is widely available all over the US, and the quality of the course and its instructors is very high. However, it is worth remembering that the Red Cross CNA Class is not free, although it can be a lot less expensive than many other CNA Training programs. If you are low on budget, you could search around for some free CNA training.

As of February 2nd, 2010, The American Red Cross has in excess of 36 CNA Training programs available across the United States. It goes without saying, that the Red Cross CNA Class is a great way to begin your training as a CNA, and is reputed to be one of the best. For many people, becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is merely a stepping stone on the way to becoming a fully Registered Nurse (RN), although many people have had lifelong enjoyable and immensely satisfying careers by staying at the CNA level. The choice is entirely up to you, depending on how far you want to go and what type of work you wish to do.

All CNA training programs ran by the American Red Cross meet the Federal CNA training standards, although each chapter has the ability to design their own program to meet specific state requirements and laws, including the number of hours you must spend on a course, and also the clinical training standards of practises and procedures. As an example, the San Bernardino chapter in California consists of a 164 hour course in total, whilst The ARC of Maryland course consists of only 114 hours. It is worth keeping in mind, that the more hours in a course there are, does not mean that they provide ‘more’ (or a better level of) training, the difference in hours can be attributed to many different variables, including of course different states having different laws.

CNA training course costs also vary in price. The San Bernardino chapter CNA training course costs $1,750, while the Southeastern Pennsylvania chapter charges $1,400 . (prices are accurate at the time of writing)

Below, you will find a list of the American Red Cross chapters that offer Certified Nursing Assistant training (CNA):

If you are considering a career in the health sector or nursing, you may be eligible to receive free CNA training through your current employer or ‘potential’ employer. Currently, the U.S Government offers health industry employers re-imbursement for the expense of training for certain occupations throughout the Medicare sector.

This includes training for Certified Nursing Assistants, who by law, must complete a competency test. Usually, although not ‘always’ the case, a home health aide will receive free training before taking the state exam. In addition to this, the National Association for Home Care and Hospice offers voluntary certification, particularly in states that require nursing aides to be licensed.

Some high schools also offer free training to prepare individuals for the CNA certification test. While most home health aides and nursing assistants are not required to hold a high school diploma, most do anyway.

You can also do your training and your CNA certification test via The American Red Cross. This method of training is relatively inexpensive compared to other programs you have to pay for, however the Red Cross CNA Class is not free. Another alternative is to look for some free CNA Classes Online , but it is worth taking into consideration that some of these courses only cover specific topics and skills, and may not cover absolutely everything you need to pass the exam.

Some states, like Florida for instance, require that Certified Nursing Assistants complete a minimum of 12 hours of in service training each year. Certain exemptions may apply if the applicant can prove that he/she was on active duty in the Armed Forces for a period of 6 months or more during the calendar year. In addition, he/she must have been in good standing with the Board of Nursing and Certified Nursing Assistant Council at the time they began their active duty.

Some of the basic topics covered in CNA training classes include body mechanics, physiology, anatomy, nutrition, communication, hygiene, basic use of equipment, taking vital signs, how to bathe patients, how to groom them, and also how to instruct and teach the patient to do all or some of the above, depending on their own ability. As a CNA you will obtain additional training while on the job under the supervision of registered nurses, other experienced nursing aides and doctors.

Federal law dictates that aides who work in nursing care homes/facilities are required to complete a minimum of 75 hours of state approved training, in addition they must also pass a competency test. CNA certification is awarded upon successful completion of the medicare funded free cna training course. After CNA certification is obtained, the CNA will then be listed in state registry of nursing aides.

For those people who are put off with the tution costs incurred in becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant, its worth noting that there are various low cost, and even free, CNA training programs available. The amount of low cost or free courses available to you will depend on your location, and your willingness to do some research, and even if their are no campus based training programs near where you live, there are some low cost and free CNA classes online.

Without doubt, one of the best places to find affordable nursing assistant training is the American Red Cross. You should contact your local Red Cross Chaper and ask for information on their scheduling for the Red Cross CNA Class. The Red Cross CNA Class is a fast paced course that can normally be completed in about 5 weeks or so, so its worth remembering that during this time you might need to free up the majority of your schedule to accomodate this. All of the courses are taught by registered nurses, and after completion you will become eligable to take the CNA certification test. For start dates and tuition rates, contact your local American Red Cross.

Another worthwhile resource for low cost CNA programs is your local community centre or college. The majority of community colleges will have short term nursing aide programs, just ensure that any nursing aide course you register for through a community college is state certified, so that you are able to sit the state certification exam at the end of it. Payment for courses like these are normally taken upon registration for the course, and courses like this normally start at various times throughout the year so you should be able to start a course very soon.

There is another option to take your nursing assistant training, at no cost to you. Some nursing homes and long term care centers offer CNA programs for people who wish to pursue a career in the medical field. They do this in order to supply their organisation with fully qualified CNA’s, so you will likely be asked to sign a contract in which you will be required to work for them after passing your CNA exam for a specified period of time (normally a year). Be sure to read the fine print and make sure you are fully aware of the contract you are entering into. Most of the time, these type of programs are perfect for anyone wishing to begin a career as a Certified Nursing Assistant. You get your course and certification paid for, and you also gain a year of vital work experience afterwards, setting you up for other jobs or promotions you may wish to pursue.

Many people decide to stay on at the company they trained with, and have very successful careers as a CNA there.

Needless to say, if you have the hunger and the willingness to shop around, phone some nursing care homes, do some enquiring about free training programs, then you will find some free cna training that suits your needs.

Choosing where to take your CNA training classes is not a world away from choosing where you want to work. Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA) are trained and certified patient care technicians who are required to work in various settings, such as Hospitals, long term care facilities, home health aides, and/or in psychiatric care settings.

CNA’s are there to deliver direct patient care. In some ways, being a Certified Nurse Assistant can be a demanding job, but most people who complete their training and get a job find it very rewarding. If you are a ‘people person’, then becoming a CNA is the job for you. What does being certified actually mean? – A Certified Nursing Assistant is someone who has a certification from the state (state of which they passed the exam), which indicates that a person has a designated and required level of training to work as a Certified Nursing Assistant

States in the USA set the regulations for the training required to become a CNA seperately, ie: Each state has different requirements by law. The Federal Government sets the guidelines for the qualifications for Certified Nursing Assistants who work in Medical Care funded facilities. To meet the guidelines set out by the government, a CNA must have at least 91 hourse of training, including 16 hours of training in a supervised clinical facility.

Its worth remembering that where you get your training is very important, there are a load of options to choose from…. so how do you go about picking the right training facility for you?. You should definately ask some questions before enrolling in a training program, and it’s highly recommended that you make an appointment and talk to an admissions rep or course leader before signing up. It’s also worth taking a tour around the building to get a feel for the place. Some places will even let you sit in on a class so you can get a good idea of what the training will be like. Remember, always ask! if you dont ask you dont get.

Another great thing about sitting in on an existing class is that you will have the chance to talk to some current students and recent graduates and ask them what they think about the level of training they receive (or received). As with most training programs, some are better than others, so make sure you are confident that whichever one you choose is the correct one for you.

There are also opportunities for free CNA training, eg: free CNA classes online, or training that is sponsored by a facility – most of these require that you work for them for a specified period of time after passing, so make sure you know the finer details before signing up.

A word of caution: Be wary of places that try too hard to enroll you. A lot of places will give you a very high pressure sales pitch, or seem reluctant to answer your questions and provide you with solid info about the course. If you feel at any point that you are being pressured into signing up before you have really made a decision, remember you can always say “Thanks, I’ll think about it” and be on your way.

You will be investing a lot of your time and money in your CNA training, so you want to make the best informed decision that you can, be vigil, use your common sense and you’ll be fine….. and most of all – Good luck on your path to choosing the right CNA Training Class!

CNA classes online is a convenient and cost effective way to gain a quality Certified Nursing Assistant education. Since the training is online, you have the comfort of doing it from your own home. This can save you a lot of money you’d otherwise spend travelling to and from a CNA training program that is based in an actual training center. Since there are no educational pre-requisites to train for CNA certification, online cna training classes can help prepare students for their state exam.

In order to become a certified CNA, you’ll be required to sit and pass the CNA exam for your state. CNA programs differ slightly from state to state. eg: in some areas, CNA’s are only required to take a 2 week course with no formal education, while other states require several months of clinical training and theory courses. It’s worth remembering however, that all CNA training programs will teach you the same basic set of skills. Training will likely include things like taking a patients vital signs, documenting patient care, communication skills, how to move patients properly, as well as some course work in physiology, anatomy, and in some cases, Chemistry.

Many people who are interested in becoming health care professionals do not have the time to take an ‘on campus’ CNA course or Nursing Assistant course, either because they cant get a class thats close enough to where they live, they can’t fit in with the course schedule, or they simply cannot afford it.

Taking online CNA classes can be a great alternative for the people who fit into the latter category, but its worth pointing out that online courses can have some drawbacks. Online courses lack the interaction from teacher to student, and also student to student. You’ll also miss out on the hands on clinical training, which means you will not have the opportunity to practise with equipment, patients, and learn the procedures ‘live’.

In some states, Nursing Boards have created education programs that allow CNA’s to provide advanced procedures beyond that of which is typically assigned to a Nurse assistant. CNA’s who partake in these programs are normally referred to by different titles, including Patient Care Technicians, Advanced Unlicensed Assistants, or CNA-2. Certified Nursing Assistants with this advanced training may perform procedures such as catheter insertion and maintenance, and tube feeding.

Advanced training like this may be taught online, but most will often require additional direct training. Some online programs can help you arrange some volunteer work at a local hospital or nursing home etc, in order for you to get this direct training.

CNA classes online are also a great option for individuals who have been certified before, but who’s license may have expired or lapsed. Online classes are an excellent way to refresh your education, and are also ideal for individuals who work within the private sector, or for those caring for a family member or friend at home.

Becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant is one of the most rewarding choices you can make in life. The different steps involved in becoming a CNA can vary greatly, depending on the workplace and where you stay.

Often, you can find local health care facilities who are advertising in the newspapers, offering paid training (you get paid while you train) and also free CNA classes. Classes like this are often offered to anyone willing to partake in them, and require no previous medical experience.

The 1st step to becming a Certified Nursing Assistant is to find a program that is most suited and compatible with your needs. If you do put in an application to a health care facility offering free CNA classes, be sure to read the fine print, as some health care facilities often require that you work for them for a certain period of time once you become certified. If you do get hired, you must be prepared to undergo a background check (to see if you have a criminal record) and also a drug test. These checks are normally mandatory for all jobs in the field of health care.

Via a health care facility, CNA classes and courses can run anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks of training, which is often every day (Full Time). If you are doing training through the Red Cross CNA Class or a community college scheme, classes can often run for up to 6 months, depending on their schedule.

Once the CNA training class ends, you will be scheduled to take a CNA Certification Test in order to become officially certified. Upon completion of your training, some places ‘may’ allow you to work for up to 4 months before you take your CNA Certification Exam.

If you are currently in High School, and you are considering becoming a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) at some point in the future, it’s worth trying to take some extra science classes such as Biology and Chemistry. It’s true that CNA classes do not normally delve too much into Sciences at any great length, however having some basic knowledge will go a long way to helping you understand some of the terminology and treatments you will use and administrate after you become a qualified CNA.

Becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant is a job in which most of your skills and abilities will come through hands on practical care, rather than in a classroom. If you are basing where to attend your CNA training depending on classtime, or how comprehensive the study is, it’s worth keeping in mind that Certified Nurse Assistants learn to be proper CNA’s once they actually get on the job, and actually work with patients. All the skills you need to become a CNA will be taught in any CNA class that you attend, because after you finish your training you will be expected to take the State exam which is the same for everyone who takes it, in order to become certified.

Becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant is a great way to give yourself some life long satisfaction, a great steady income, and a job security that very few other professionals get to enjoy.

Free CNA training for people who wish to become Certified Nursing Assistants can sometimes be found via employers, such as hospitals, through local vocational training organizations, and through CNA training online. Its worth noting that to become a Certified Nursing Assistant, you will need to take and pass a state exam, which might not be covered by online CNA Training.

CNA Training ‘classes’ are not the same as CNA training ‘courses’. Classes normally include practical hands on clinical learning and practise, and courses normally come in the form of printed and/or online courseware of various formats.

It depends where you live, but some hospitals and Nursing Homes may offer free CNA Training, in exchange for you working for them for a period of time. The easiest way to check this is to open your local phone book and give them a call!. Look up long term care centers and just ask, if you don’t ask you’ll never know. Also, some Hospitals have contracts with local community colleges and centers, and offer CNA courses free to their students.

There are also CNA / HHA Scholarship programs. They sponsor free CNA / HHA training for qualified individuals who’d like to become Certified Nurse Assistants and Home Health Aides (HHA) and work in providing long term care.

These programs most often cover the full cost of your training, including the CNA state certification exam. They are normally funded by the states Department of Public health.

Another method of sponsorship is via the armed services. The Armed Services offer numerous CNA training programs. Through the Air Force Aid society Spouse Employement Program, some facilities have recently been approved to offer the Certified Nursing Assistant program in a partnership with Spectrum Medical Services. Via this program, the Air Force Aid Society will pay for 10 spouses of active duty military to become certified CNA’s. Needless to say, if you are a spouse of an active duty member of the military, and wish to become a CNA, it’s worth calling the Airman and Family Readiness Center at the AFB and enrolling in a course.

If you are already a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) and have been working in the same place for a long time, and particularly if your employer has already paid for your CNA classes or course, then they might also be prepared to send you back to school to get your RN certification.

CNA Training provides resources and information for people who are interested in obtaining a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) certificate.

On this website, you’ll find info on Free CNA Classes online, CNA Training, the Red Cross CNA Class, information about CNA Jobs including the average CNA salary you can expect to earn once certified, and also other resources and information that might be useful and help you to become a Nursing Assistant.

Generally speaking, Nursing Assistants work in Hospitals, Nursing Homes, Adult Day Health Centers, Assisted Living Facilities, and even personal homes (private work). Wherever there is a need for personal care, Certified Nursing Assistants are the people who perform the most basic needs for patients, young and old. A Nursing Assistant works under the supervision of a qualified nurse, and since nursing aides have extended daily contact with their patients, their role is key to providing vital information on the patients conditions to the nurse.

Certified Nursing Assistant Duties:

Working closely with their patients, CNA’s are responsible for basic care, eg: bathing, grooming, feeding patients, assisting nurses with any required medical equipment, and also checking the patients vital signs. As well as this, CNA’s give patients important social and emotional support and relay vital information on the patients condition to the nurses.

To some people, being a Nursing Assistant is just a way to pay the bills and not much more. These kind of people are easy to recognise, displaying behaviours like laziness and a generall lack of enthusiasm. Unfortunately its the patients who suffer for what is ultimately someone elses error in career choice.

The first step in becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant is to find a program that is suited to your specific needs. If you’re thinking about applying at a healthcare facility that offers free CNA classes, you must make sure you read the fine print, as some of these places require that you commit yourself to work for them for a certain period of time after you complete the course. If you do get hired at a healthcare facility, be prepared to be asked to submit a background check (criminal record) and also a drug test. These requiredments are normally mandatory for this line of work.

Once you reach the end of your training, you’ll be scheduled to take a State Administered Test to become officially certified. There are some places however that will allow you to work, upon completion of your training, for up to 4 months without certification.

Becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant is very rewarding, and it can be one of the best decisions of your life if you put your heart into it. Being a CNA not only is financially rewarding, but it also leads to a fulfilling life working with people who need your help and support.

We hope the information at CNA Training can help you make the right choice!
