Free CNA Training
Free CNA training for people who wish to become Certified Nursing Assistants can sometimes be found via employers, such as hospitals, through local vocational training organizations, and through CNA training online. Its worth noting that to become a Certified Nursing Assistant, you will need to take and pass a state exam, which might not be covered by online CNA Training.
CNA Training ‘classes’ are not the same as CNA training ‘courses’. Classes normally include practical hands on clinical learning and practise, and courses normally come in the form of printed and/or online courseware of various formats.
It depends where you live, but some hospitals and Nursing Homes may offer free CNA Training, in exchange for you working for them for a period of time. The easiest way to check this is to open your local phone book and give them a call!. Look up long term care centers and just ask, if you don’t ask you’ll never know. Also, some Hospitals have contracts with local community colleges and centers, and offer CNA courses free to their students.
There are also CNA / HHA Scholarship programs. They sponsor free CNA / HHA training for qualified individuals who’d like to become Certified Nurse Assistants and Home Health Aides (HHA) and work in providing long term care.
These programs most often cover the full cost of your training, including the CNA state certification exam. They are normally funded by the states Department of Public health.
Another method of sponsorship is via the armed services. The Armed Services offer numerous CNA training programs. Through the Air Force Aid society Spouse Employement Program, some facilities have recently been approved to offer the Certified Nursing Assistant program in a partnership with Spectrum Medical Services. Via this program, the Air Force Aid Society will pay for 10 spouses of active duty military to become certified CNA’s. Needless to say, if you are a spouse of an active duty member of the military, and wish to become a CNA, it’s worth calling the Airman and Family Readiness Center at the AFB and enrolling in a course.
If you are already a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) and have been working in the same place for a long time, and particularly if your employer has already paid for your CNA classes or course, then they might also be prepared to send you back to school to get your RN certification.
